        _THE DICKENS WORLD_ AVAILABLE FROM UCSB ARCHIVES

        Subscribers of DICKNS-L will be interested to learn
that the latest issue of _Dickens World_ vol. 8, Summer, 1992,
is now available for retrieval from our archives here at the
University of California, Santa Barbara.
        _The Dickens World_ is published annually at the
University of California, Riverside, and is an offical organ of
the University of California Dickens Project. This is the first
time an issue has been available for electronic retrieval, and
we expect it to be a regular feature of DICKNS-L publications.
The journal is edited by Joseph Childers and Parama Roy,
Department of English, University of California, Riverside,
Riverside, CA 92521 and welcomes submission of articles on
all aspects of Victorian culture and society.  Please address
inquiries to the editors.
        _The Dickens World_ is formatted as ASCII text, the
character-code used by all personal computers.  The journal
is sent as electronic mail and can be downloaded by the reader
from our mainframe computer to personal computers and imported
into most word-processing systems.

HOW TO GET AN ARCHIVED ESSAY OR REVIEW:

        Each item has a filename consisting of the first eight
characters of the author's name and a filetype consisting of
letters and numbers denoting the publication, year of publication,
and its numerical order for the year.  For example, Christine
Alfano's article, published in the 1992 _Dickens World_ has the
filename ALFANO and the filetype DW9201.
        To get an item send a message to
          [log in to unmask]
        a message which reads as follows
          GET FILENAME FILETYPE
Example:  GET ALFANO DW9201

Below is a Table of Contents, followed by a title page.  After
each item, in brackets, is the filename and filetype in which
the item is stored in the archives of DICKNS-L. (Do not use the
brackets when requesting an item.)
